Ottawa folk singer Craig Cardiff is in town Monday and Tuesday to do some workshops and performances at the University, Jan. 18 and 19.
Things are pretty slow for the rest of the week itself, though the Slice has their monthly jazz jam featuring HBO3 on Wednesday, Jan. 21. HBO3 also have their regular gig at Plum on Thursday, Jan. 22.
There is an interesting classical music show at the Lethbridge public library, Jan. 22 as well where Affairs of the Harp will feature flautist Monica Baczuk, harpist Karin Barg and cellists Mark Rodgers and Christine Bootland. There will also be performances by percussionist Issac Neufeld and accordionist Alice Tinordi plus Carolyn McKee. They feature the compositions of numerous French composers. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m., Jan. 22. Tickets cost $10.
Things start to rock by the end of the week with blues rock band Flowshine returning to the Slice, Jan. 23.
Calgary folk punks Spencer Jo and the River Jacks return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge with Jordan Barrett playing Jan. 23.
The River Jacks also play a folk punk show at the Vent in Coaldale the next day with local punks the Scallywags, Space Wolves, Gender Bender and Corneillius VonWolfenstein. The show begins at 8 p.m. There is a $10 cover.
For local country music, Breanne Urban and Southern Flyer return to Casino Lethbridge for the weekend.
Also on the weekend, get a taste of Ukrainian culture with the Troyanda Ukrainian Dance Club, who celebrate New Year’s or Malanka on Jan. 24 at the Lethbridge Senior’s Centre Organization, LSCO.
The Troyanda dancers perform at 4:30 p.m. followed by a Ukrainian feast and a dance featuring the music of Calgary band Absolute to follow. Tickets are $25 adults, seniors/ Students $30, youth under 12 $20 for just the dance.
For something a little different and a whole lot funnier, the Drama Nutz bring back their improvised soap opera Gommorrah to Club Didi on Friday. The show begins at 8 p.m. There is $10 cover.
The other big show of the week features Vancouver based country singer Aaron Pritchett bringing his Outlaws and Outsiders tour to Average Joes, Monday, Jan. 26.
