Director Lee Prindle, who directed “Dixie Swim Club” is excited to direct “Always a Bridesmaid,” which will take the stage Oct. 18-22 at the Country Kitchen.
So Playgoers are looking for six women to be part of the production.
“ It‘s similar to Dixie Swim Club,” he said.
four of the women are in their 40s or 50s, one older lady and one around 20, but play whatever age you want,” Prindle said.
Auditions will be at Casa from 6-8 p.m. on June 28 and 30.
“It is about four women who make a vow to always be bridesmaid at each other’s weddings. But one gets married three times and another waits until she is middle aged. Buy the time they all get to be bridesmaids, they are all older,” Prindle summarized.
“ But while Dixie Swim Club progresses over 30 years, “Always a Bridesmaid” only looks back seven years,” he said, adding each scene is introduced by a young woman who is the daughter of one of the main characters.
“ One of the women runs a wedding chapel. I envision her to be like Bea Arthur,” he said, noting there are four major parts and two relatively minor parts.
“ Though there are no small parts,” he said.
“It’s not a melodrama, it’s a good comedy,” Prindle said.
“I’d love to see some seasoned people, but I want to see some new people as well. I want the cast to be able to work together well. That’s the most important thing,” he said
He noted he hopes to cast the actors as soon as possible and give them a month to learn their lines before embarking on heavy rehearsals in August.
He is excited to direct another play by the same playwrights for Playgoers of Lethbridge.
“ I suggested a couple of plays to do and they used one, Boeing Boeing, as their mainstage production. I’m retired now and don’t go to Arizona until November, so I have the time. Playgoers has given me so much. I want to give something back,” Prindle said.
Auditions for “Always a Bridesmaid” are Tuesday, June 28 and Thursday June 30 at Casa. from 6-8 p.m. he encouraged anybody interested in helping back stage to come then as well.
