Enslow and Mariel Buckley fill the Windy City Opry with the sound of roots

The Windy City Opry returned to the Slice on Wednesday, Jan.  11. It is quickly becoming the place to be on the second Wednesday of every month.

This month, a good sized crowd was on hand to dance and listen to the early starting show and early ending show featuring host Shaela Miller and Calgary country band the Mariel Buckley and the Jealous Hearts, who I unfortunately missed, due to being on the air  on CKXU.

I arrived just in time for Medicine Hat country/ rock duo Enslow. They are always  entertaining. The last time they featured a full rhythm section, this time they were doing it as a duo with Jay Bowcott and Brady Enslen alternating on drums and vocals and lead guitar, with whoever was playing drums also singing lead on their songs while the other added extra guitar.

Brady Enslen’s immediately appealing songs had a Steve Earle feel to them  because of his raspy, snarling voice. Bowcott’s songs were a little more rock and roll influenced, though he also sang a slower song
In addition to songs from their solo CDs, they also played a couple songs from their first record together, which they are recording with Leeroy Stagger and should be released in February.
They wound up their set around 11 p.m.
