Declan O'Donovan is a singer, songwriter and pianist from Whitehorse, Yukon. His music is influenced by the sounds of Americana, blues, folk and roots, finding inspiration from artists such as Bob Dylan and Randy Newman. Informed by adept piano playing, an evocative voice, and skillful songwriting, O’Donovan’s music is at times dark, consistently poignant, and often underscored with twists of wicked humour.
Since the August 2012 release of his debut solo record, his song 'Cheap Souvenir' has received airplay on CBC Radio 1 across Canada, as well as campus and community airplay including CKUA in Alberta, CJLO in Quebec, and CFRC and CILU in Ontario. The album has garnered positive reviews both nationally and internationally with The Globe and Mail’s Brad Wheeler likening Declan O’Donovan to Tom Waits or Joe Henry, while Jeff Monk of Winnipeg’s Uptown Magazine declared O’Donovan’s bittersweet premier self-titled album is concrete proof that living somewhere that’s not the recognized heart of Canada’s music scene matters not when it comes to creating poignant, listenable songs.Through regular touring over the last two years, Declan has performed across Canada and into the US including major music festivals such as Roots and Blues Festival in Salmon Arm, BC; Canadian Music Week in Toronto, ON; and Breakout West in Calgary, AB which included a featured performance at the Western Canadian Music Awards Gala. Recently O’Donovan also received a 2014 Maple Blues nomination for Best New Artist Of The Year. Either as a solo performer or fronting his four-piece group, Declan continues to boast energetic and engaging live performances across the country.
