Jim and Lynda McLennan have been involved in music in one form or another for most of their adult lives.

Lynda McLennan taught high-school music for many years, working with choirs, bands, jazz choirs and was music director for several Mainstage musicals. She has directed church choirs and retired after 15 years as the Founder / Director of the Big Rock Singers, a community choir in her home town of Okotoks, Alberta. She has also been very active in church-music as a worship leader and vocal soloist.   Jim often accompanies Lynda when she sings.

Jim McLennan is best-known for his profile in the world of fly fishing, but he has also been a serious musician for over 40 years.  In the 1970s  McLennan met American acoustic guitar guru Stefan Grossman and subsequently recorded several of his arrangements for Stefan Grossman’s Kicking Mule Record Company.  His music has also been featured in Guitar Player magazine.

Currently he most frequently performs with his vocalist-wife and the roots group Wailback.  Jim can also be heard accompanying his brother Hugh McLennan in the Western Spirit Band at Western Music and Cowboy Poetry gatherings throughout the West.

Jim also appears occasionally on recordings or in public performance with Cowboy Celtic, Tom Cole, Steve Fisher, John Fraser,  Paul Rumbolt, Tanya Ryan, David Wilkie, and Denise Withnell.
In 2011, Jim's first solo CD, "Six-String Gumbo" was released.  Shortly after, it was chosen by CKUA Radio as their "CD of the Week."  It was also a Western Canadian Music Award finalist in 2012.  See more information about the CD and how to purchase one by clicking on CD Information at the top of this page.
In 2014, Dancing On Air, a CD of music from both Jim and Lynda was released.

Wailback
In 2014, Jim began playing electric guitar with the southern Alberta roots ensemble, Wailback.  Other members are well-known Alberta author (twice shortlisted for Governor General's awards) and song-writer Sid Marty, Joe Cunningham, who recorded, co-produced, mastered all of Jim and Lynda's music CDs, and James Van Leeuwwen. The music is a folk rock mix of Sid's great original tunes and some well-known covers given the Wailback treatment. Find more information about Wailback and performances on our concert page.

Casa is the realization of a 20 year dream, shared by many in the Lethbridge arts community, to expand or replace the Bowman Arts Centre. This unique new facility far surpasses the original vision for expansion, and sets a new standard for interdisciplinary arts centres. It is about experimentation, incubation, learning and growing. Casa was built to serve a multi-generational community, with varying art skill sets and interests in all disciplines of the arts.

Designing the building was a comprehensive and collaborative process led by Nyhoff Architecture from (Calgary) working in conjunction with the local architectural firm of Ferrari Westwood Babits. The Architectural team visited numerous arts education institutions and also met with members of the local arts community to define requirements for a truly functional 42,000 square foot art centre. The resulting building design is truly impressive.

Funding for the project were provided by the Federal Build Canada Fund ($6,000,000.), the Provincial MSI Fund ($14,900,000.) and the City of Lethbridge ($200,000).
